Drake Hosts Raise The Purse Luncheon

first_imgThe event began with a silent auction featuring more than 200 gently used designer and high-end purses and handbags and several Drake Athletics-themed bags. Following the lunch, a live auction, including a number of VIP packages, took place.”I would like to thank our chair members Emily Abbas and Tiffany Tauscheck and honorary co-chairs, Suzie Glazer Burt and Laura Martin. Their support for this event demonstrates the power of philanthropy in the Des Moines area,” said Drake Senior Associate Athletics Director Patrick Tomka. “We had record attendance, record number of bags for auction and a new record-number of funds raised in support of Drake Athletics this year. We would like to thank all of those that participated and joined in on a fun afternoon and a special thanks to Willis Auto coming on as the title sponsor of the event this year!”The luncheon closed with the keynote speech by Glazer Burt, a Drake University Trustee and creator of Raise the Purse, who first thanked everyone in attendance for their support of the annual event that helps raise funds for Drake athletics. She then shared her excitement of bringing two of her passions, Drake University and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa, together. Glazer Burt worked with Drake and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa to build the Gregory & Suzie Glazer Burt Club, located near the southwest corner of 25th St. and Forest Ave. The Gregory & Suzie Glazer Burt Club will open in May, 2019 and it will serve an estimated 170 children and teens in its first year, growing to 225 by year five. The Club—only the third in the nation to be located on a private university campus—will provide numerous educational and service opportunities for Drake’s students and its student-athletes. Print Friendly Version Story Links DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University Athletic Department hosted its annual Raise The Purse luncheon on Thursday, Oct. 4 in the Courtside Club of the Shivers Basketball Practice Facility.center_img Photo Gallery last_img read more
