Former Dominican ambassador takes up UNDP position

Photo credit: Facebook profile.A former Dominican ambassador to the United Nations has been assigned a new position within the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).Crispin Gregoire who served as Dominica’s ambassador to the United Nations was announced as the Chief of Strategic Monitoring and Support on May 1st, 2012.He is responsible to provide managerial support to five (5) UNDP offices in the Caribbean as Chief of Strategic Monitoring and Support.“I was recently selected from a large pool of applicants for the position to coordinate the Caribbean offices of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the Caribbean. So I operate from the headquarters in New York and I’m directly responsible to provide management support and to oversee the operations in terms of the five offices in Jamaica, Barbados, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago and Suriname. You don’t hear the word Dominica in those names now Dominica is actually supported from the office in Barbados which covers the Organization of East Caribbean States,” Gregoire explained.He will also serve as a broker for mobilization of additional resources for their programs, build strategic alliances with donors and other resource organizations and manage the Caribbean Regional Program undertaken jointly with the CARICOM Secretariat.The UNDP is an “arm” of the United Nations which Gregoire said “focuses on development and improving the lives of people”.They are able to do so through a number of approaches, he clarified.“It focuses on poverty alleviation, we’re talking about ending poverty, improving lives of people, making sure they have access to water, access to energy, access to food. Nuhu Liman to referee Hearts v Kotoko
