Watford defender Craig Cathcart said: “Since I’ve come to the club it’s been an uphill scale. We got promoted in the first year and we’ve managed to stabilise ourselves in the Premier League.“We’ve added top-quality players since we’ve been here and it’s just a pleasure to play for the club. Things are going really well.“But we can’t rest on our laurels too much. We need to take each game as it comes because we have a game against Chelsea in a couple of days. We have an experienced squad who have been in England quite a while now. We know we can’t look too far ahead.“Things can change very quick. If you’re not 100 per cent every game then you won’t pick up points. We’ve definitely learned from that the last few seasons.”Troy Deeney also said: “I let everybody else do the ambitions. We know what we have got in the dressing room.”We are not a bad outfit. But we’ve got to keep doing what we’re doing, be a bit arrogant in terms of knowing what we have got, but humble enough to know you have to work hard to win in this league.”

Newcastle boss Benitez confident Clark and Lascelles injuries not seriousby Paul Vegas9 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveNewcastle United boss Rafa Benitez has hopes of injuries for Ciaran Clark and Jamaal Lascelles not being serious.During their FA Cup win at Blackburn Rovers, Lascelles was forced off after just 10 minutes of coming off the bench with a hamstring issue while Clark suffered a knee problem. After the game Benitez said: “We have to assess them over the next couple of days.“Lascelles? I don’t think it is very serious.“We had to make a substitution and we did what we needed to get through. Now it is about getting three points against Cardiff.“Clark went off at half-time with a knock to the knee but we will see if he is fine.“I don’t think it will be serious.“We have to manage the team, manage the squad, but we wanted to win.“You could see the players working hard until the end, with determination to go through.” About the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your say

In the dressing room, we were all as disappointed as him. We let him down, we let the club down.”We weren’t terrible. We just didn’t seem to click, didn’t put anything together. TagsTransfersLoan MarketAbout the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your say Man Utd midfielder James Garner a target for Preston and Wiganby Paul Vegas21 hours agoSend to a friendShare the loveManchester United midfielder James Garner is a loan target for Preston and Wigan Athletic. Both clubs are ready to make a move for the 18-year-old when the January window opens in a couple of months, says The Sun.Sunderland are also looking at the midfielder as part of their promotion push in League One.Garner has travelled for Thursday’s Europa League clash against Partizan Belgrade in Serbia. But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will weigh up whether he will be allowed out for regular games in the New Year.Alex Neil is willing to take him to Deepdale as he looks to get into the Premier League, while Paul Cook at Wigan is also a big fan of the teenager.
Vinicius Junior has the personality required to thrive at a club like Real Madrid, according to Emilio Butragueno. The 18-year-old enjoyed another fine performance on Wednesday, contributing a goal and an assist in Madrid’s 3-0 home win over Leganes in the first leg of the Copa del Rey last-16 meeting. The Champions League holders will hope Vinicius helps to fill the void left by record goalscorer Cristiano Ronaldo, who joined Juventus in a €112 million (£101m/£129m) move in July. And club legend Butragueno, who won six La Liga crowns in 11 years at the Santiago Bernabeu, has been suitably impressed by Vinicius.”To play like this in this stadium you have to have personality, especially when you’re a striker,” he told beIN Sports.”We must not forget that he is 18 years old.”Last season, Madrid were stunned 2-1 at home by Leganes and went out on away goals despite having won the first leg 1-0, and Butragueno was keen to guard against another shock in the return fixture next week.”The 3-0 [win] is a great result for a tie, we will not deny it, but in football everything can happen and nothing is final,” Butragueno said.”We will have to make a good game in the return to qualify.”Madrid opened the scoring via Sergio Ramos’ 44th-minute penalty – controversially awarded for a foul on Alvaro Odriozola by Gerard Gumbau.”Of course it was a penalty,” Odriozola insisted. “I fell to the ground because of the foul.”If he hadn’t committed a penalty on me then I could have kept the ball. There was another dubious incident minutes before that, which wasn’t given.”
Mexico’s injury issues aren’t getting any better, with El Tri manager Tata Martino saying Hector Moreno is likely to miss the Gold Cup.The veteran center back attempted a long ball forward in the 35th minute of Mexico’s 3-2 win over Ecuador and immediately went to the ground, calling the trainers over as goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa went over to check on him. Moreno left AT&T Stadium under his own power but did so with a limp. He is set to undergo evaluation Monday.”I think there is a big chance that he’s out of the Gold Cup,” Martino said in his postmatch news conference. Article continues below Editors’ Picks ‘There is no creativity’ – Can Solskjaer get Man Utd scoring freely again? ‘Everyone legged it on to the pitch!’ – How Foden went from Man City superfan to future superstar Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? Already missing a number of players to injuries and omissions, Martino can ill-afford to lose another player to injury. El Tri already is hoping midfielder Edson Alvarez is able to bounce back from a knee injury suffered in a 3-1 win over Venezuela last week.If Alvarez weren’t fit for the competition, LA Galaxy attacker Uriel Antuna would be his injury replacement. Moreno also would be replaced by Antuna if Alvarez is fit. Only players from the provisional roster submitted can be called in as injury replacements, and Mexico submitted a list of 29 players rather than the full 40 allowed. That means if both Moreno and Alvarez miss the tournament, no healthy field players remain to fill out the group.Martino has more depth at the back than he does in midfield, though. Carlos Salcedo stepped in and played next to Cesar Montes with Nestor Araujo and Diego Reyes also capable of playing at center back – though Reyes may push into the midfield if Alvarez isn’t healthy.Salcedo said after the match that building chemistry is important for whichever center-back pairing ends up getting the nod.”We have to continue to play more minutes together,” he said. “I don’t know if it’s going to be me, Araujo or even Hector if he comes back from the injury. At the end, we have to be focused on what we have and keep our focus on our goal to win the championship.”The 25-year-old is recovering from his own knee injury, suffered during Tigres’ title run. He said he felt good playing Sunday and is hoping to get a healthy dose of minutes during the Gold Cup. While the World Cup veteran is one of Mexico’s top defenders, he said he still needs to put in the effort to win a starting job.”That’s the goal, but I have to work for it. I think that’s the good thing Tata has made. Nobody has his spot guaranteed,” he said. “I think we have to compete every day to see who’s going to be the starter. After that, with all the passion we’ve put into these last three games, we have to manage the same thing now in the official competitions.”

Tagovailoa has since addressed the report. The Crimson Tide rising sophomore quarterback says his comments were taken out of context. He made those comments while speaking to a group of kids and says he “got the wrong end, most definitely taken out of context.”Tagovailoa says that he wanted to play his freshman season and was obviously frustrated that he wasn’t, but he believes it was important to stick it out to produce the best end result.“I called my dad and asked him if my offer to the University of Southern California was still available,” Tagovailoa said. “I wanted to leave. I told my dad I wanted to go to a school where I thought it’d be easier for me and wouldn’t challenge me so much.”Alabama’s 2017 season ended with Tagovailoa leading the Crimson Tide to a national title win over Georgia, so it seems to have produced that result he wanted. You can watch his comments below:WATCH: I spoke exclusively w/ #Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa about report that he would’ve transferred to #USC had he not played in championship. @Tuaamann_ explains comments (made to a group of kids) & says he “got the wrong end, most definitely taken out of context” #RollTide pic.twitter.com/jdgvCFQzhJ— Simone Eli (@SimoneEli_TV) May 20, 2018Alabama has yet to officially settle on a starting quarterback for the 2018 season, though most expect it to be Tagovailoa’s job. SANTA CLARA, CA – JANUARY 07: Tua Tagovailoa #13 of the Alabama Crimson Tide warms up prior to the CFP National Championship against the Clemson Tigers presented by AT&T at Levi’s Stadium on January 7, 2019 in Santa Clara, California. (Photo by Harry How/Getty Images)Tua Tagovailoa is on pace to become an early first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. However, the Alabama quarterback has unfinished business to take care of from last season.Early in the season, Tagovailoa was cruising on his way to the Heisman Trophy. Unfortunately, injuries to his knee and ankle hampered him for the final stretch.Losing out on the Heisman Trophy probably didn’t bother the dual-threat quarterback, but his exit in the College Football Playoff definitely did. Both Tagovailoa and Nick Saban have made it clear they’re not over the blowout loss to Clemson.Saban knows how important Tagovailoa’s health will be to their chances of winning the national title, which is why he is issuing a challenge to him. The key issue for Tagovailoa will be remaining durable for the duration of a season. “Tua has to challenge himself to get back. Being hurt was an issue at the end of (last) season,” Saban said today. With Jalen Hurts now suiting up for Oklahoma, Saban won’t have a top option to rely on in the event that Tagovailoa gets hurt.Nick Saban on Tua: “Tua has to challenge himself to get back. Being hurt was an issue at end of (last) season. He has to challenge himself to get back into great shape. He should take the perception he has a lot to prove – as do all of us – relative to how the season ended”— Brett McMurphy (@Brett_McMurphy) May 28, 2019After finishing last season with 3,966 yards and 43 touchdowns, it’s hard to see how Tagovailoa can get even better. Nonetheless, durability is one of the best abilities at the quarterback position. We’ll see how Tagovailoa handles the challenge from Saban when the Crimson Tide begin their season on August 31.
(Photo by Streeter Lecka/Getty Images)The NCAA has made a couple of high-profile decisions on major college football transfer waivers since the close of the 2018 season. Two star quarterbacks, Justin Fields and Tate Martell, were both granted immediate eligibility at Ohio State and Miami, respectively. However, not all transfers have been as lucky.Earlier this offseason, the NCAA ruled on the transfer waiver of Luke Ford, who left Georgia for Illinois. Ford’s waiver, unlike Fields and Martell’s, was denied. Ford and Illinois filed an appeal, but that was also denied by the NCAA.ESPN college football analyst Adam Rittenberg has the statement from the NCAA:NCAA upholds decision on #Illini TE Luke Ford, who had applied for immediate eligibility after transferring from #Georgia. But Ford’s father, Tim, told ESPN.com’s Tom VanHaaren that the distance from the family home in Carterville to Illinois’ campus in Champaign — more than 100 miles — might have impacted the NCAA’s decision to deny the waiver request.“He’s leaving the Taj Mahal of facilities [at Georgia] just so his grandpa gets a chance to see him play in person, before it’s too late,” Tim Ford said, adding that his son “is pretty devastated” about the decision.Ford should have a major impact on the Illinois football program, though those contributions might have to wait until 2020.

In fact, he doesn’t even have the defending champions in his top three.Clemson has a plethora of playmakers on the field, such as Trevor Lawrence, Travis Etienne and Justyn Ross. It’s hard to find many flaws on its roster. One knock on the Tigers is their lack of competition. Unlike years past, the ACC isn’t as strong as it used to be due to the recent decline of Miami and Florida State.Although Clemson’s schedule isn’t as tough as other top programs, it did take care of business against No. 23 Texas A&M.
India Today Web Desk New DelhiJanuary 11, 2019UPDATED: January 14, 2019 15:17 IST India will be hoping to start the three-match series with a win in Sydney (@BCCI Photo)Hit hard by an unexpected controversy after the high of the Test triumph, India will look to fine tune their World Cup preparations in the three-match ODI series against an under-fire Australia, beginning in Sydney on Saturday.Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul has provided a big distraction for the Indian team by making “inappropriate” comments on women during a TV show.Rahul was unlikely to get a go owing to both his poor form and the presence of a well-settled opening pair in Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan. The bigger question though is regarding Pandya’s absence, for the all-rounder provides crucial balance to the ODI side with his ability to bowl 10 overs as well as bat in the middle order.Pandya’s absence could mean that India might have to rejig their bowling attack. Jasprit Bumrah has already been rested for this series, as well as the tour of New Zealand, and this allows the think-tank to conduct one final experimentation with their bowling attack.Bhuvneshwar Kumar is a shoo-in, and thereafter it depends if Kohli wants to go in with a three-man pace attack to compensate for Pandya’s loss. What time does the 1st ODI between India vs Australia start? The 1st ODI starts at 7:50 AM IST on January 12, Thursday at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney. What TV channel and live stream is the 1st ODI between India and Australia Live Streaming on?Sony SIX and Sony SIX HD in English commentary and Sony Ten 3 and Sony Ten 3 HD in Hindi Commentary.
