PNG students enter team in Philippines league

first_imgThe Central Luzon Crusaders team previously known as the Indang Rebels which incorporates PNG students studying in Universities and colleges in Philippines will now compete in the Philippines National Rugby League Competition against some of Philippines strong teams Albay Vulcans, Manila Storm and University of Batangas Toro in a four team competition.Rebels were formed 3 years ago by students to celebrate Papua New Guinea’s independence in Philippines as the countries national sport.It has eventually progressed from college level to national level.Gorden Asa a 24year old PNG national studying Civil Engineering at Cavite State University will be leading the Central Luzon Crusaders in the PNRL’s inaugural 2016 season.Gorden and the PNG students are proud to play in a regular Rugby League competition to develop the sport and be part of history.“We took the opportunity to show people our interest in Rugby League as it builds our interest to train and promote Rugby League to our Filipino friends in our school, province and the Philippines,” the Central Luzon Crusaders trailblazer  Gorden Asa said. He predicts more students will join as the competition progresses and gains popularity in the Philipines.“Our aim is to teach those that are willing to learn the sport and how it is played internationally,” Gorden said.last_img
